TURGUIDE FOR INDRE NAMDAL

THE RIGHT TO ROAM Allemannsretten i.e. the right to roam is an important part of Nor- wegian cultural heritage. It gives you the right to roam free in nature all year around. Camping is allowed in outdoor areas, minimum 150 meters from the closest house or cabin. Always be considerate and bring back any garbage to the appropriate waste and recycling bins. NATIONAL PARKS AND PROTECTED AREAS Lierne National Park, parts of Blåfjella-Skjækerfjella National Park and parts of Børgefjell National Park are in Inner Namdalen. All plant life in national parks is protected and should not be removed/ damaged, the exception being berry picking. You can fish and hunt in national parks with valid hunting or fishing licences. REINDEER HUSBANDRY AND GRAZING AREAS Østre Namdal Reinbeitedistrikt/Tjåehkere sijte, Luru reinbeitedistrikt/ Låarten sijte, Børgefjell reinbeitedistrikt/Byrkijen sijte and Vestre- Namdal reinbeitedistrik/Aårjel-Njaarken sijte have reindeers in the area. We ask that you do not disturb the reindeer, particularly if they are on patches of snow on warm days.Walking close to a reindeer herd stresses the animals, even if it does not appear that way. CAMPFIRES AND DOG LEASHES According to Norwegian law it is not permitted to light a campfire between April 15th and September 15th. All dogs must be on leashes between April 1st and August 20th to avoid dogs chasing or harming reindeer, horses, cattle, sheep, goats, birds or other wildlife. SAFETY AND EQUIPMENT The maps in this brochure are meant as illustrations only. We recommend buying or printing (norgeskart.no ) topographic maps. Bring maps, compass and/or GPS. Always check the weather forecast before starting a hike, tell someone where you are going and bring extra clothes if the weather changes. Bringing extra food and water is always recommended.
