Figure 10: Delamination is an important damage mode in composites used in wind turbine blades.
The resistance towards delamination depends on adequate connection of fibres between the
different lamina providing bridging of fibres that reduces the crack growth. NOWITECH WPB has
together with DTU Wind carried out experimental and theoretical work to provide better cohesive
laws for structural simulations. The figure shows a specimen during delamination testing under
different load conditions. Fibre bridging is visible in the gap in the middle of the specimen
